Winter 08/09 Newsletter

· Len Funk, Phil Turner, Tim Clough and Mike Hayton were guest speakers on 'Orthopaedics and Sport Injuries' at the Institute of Physics, London on the 17th & 18th November 2008

· Matt Ravenscroft has been invited as faculty on The Annecy Minimally Invasive Surgery course in February 2009 with Laurent La Fosse. He is also faculty on the international 'Future of Arthroscopy' course.

· Mike Hayton has been invited to speak this year at two American Hand Meetings and three in mainland Europe.

· Phil Turner, Jon Borrill and Nick Phillips will be guest speakers at Physio First and Neurotech Meeting at Mere Golf & Country Club on 14th January 2009

· Matt Ravenscroft and Nick Phillips have been invited onto the faculty for the first Intermediate Shoulder Cadaveric Arthroscopy course being held at The Royal College of Surgeons in London in February.

· Adam Hoad-Reddick is now offering hip arthroscopy at The Alexandra Hospital as well as his NHS base at Wrightington. This is a modern surgical technique that is technically demanding. Adam has been appropriately trained and is looking forward to treating many patients in this growing area.

· Nick Phillips and Mike Hayton have both joined Phil Turner as Examiners for the Intercollegiate board for the FRCS (Tr and Orth)

· Orthteam are sponsoring a National JuJitsu Seminar to be held at Bolton School & Bolton Arena on 21st and 22nd March 2009

· Len Funk in association with the University of Salford is running a number of Postgraduate Degrees and Diplomas in Orthopaedics, for therapists and medics.  ORTHTEAM EDUCATIONAL MEETING - Clinical Examination - 'How it's done' 3/02/09, The Alexandra Hospital

This was a hands-on meeting for General Practitioners and physiotherapists at The Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle. This event was  oversubscribed and we are planning a further event in the summer.

 ORTHTEAM EDUCATIONAL MEETING - Elite Sports Update

Tuesday 24th March 2009 at Mere Golf & Country Club

Our first 'Sports Injury Update' meeting last September at Mere was a great success with over 100 delegates from the North West professional and elite amateur sports medicine community. This event is entitled Elite Sports Update. Joining the Orthteam speakers will be John Somauroo, speaking on 'Preventing sudden cardiac death' and Stuart Clark, speaking on 'Facial trauma'.

· Orthteam are pleased to announce Andrew Rink as the new director of business strategy. Andrew was CEO of a large international manufacturing company before selling the company in 2008. After a year out Andrew is looking to enter the sports sector and hopes that the links Orthteam have in this field will help his career progression. Andrew has been impressed with Orthteam's drive and ambition to provide a high level of patient care for the general public as well as the elite athlete.

· Orthteam have negotiated with The Alexandra Hospital for secretarial space. This will allow cross cover of secretarial services.

· The Orthteam out of hours on call service has been very popular with the local sports clubs. A number of injured professional players have had immediate access to the appropriate care.
